Driving

The drive from Sydney to Jindabyne is five hours, from Melbourne it’s seven hours and Canberra is two hours. The slopes of Thredbo and Perisher are about a 30min drive from Jindabyne in good conditions and the Bullock’s Flat Skitube station is 20min, with plenty of parking.

Bus

Several coach companies operate services from Sydney and Canberra to Jindabyne. These services run throughout the year and require booking in advance. Some of the major operators include Greyhound Australia and Murrays Coaches.

 

By Air

While Jindabyne doesn’t have its own airport, you can fly to nearby airports and then travel by road to reach Jindabyne. Here’s how:

Canberra Airport (CBR):

  • Fly into Canberra Airport, which is the closest major airport to Jindabyne.
  • From the airport, you can rent a car: Many major car rental companies operate from Canberra Airport. From there, it’s about a 2 hour drive to Jindabyne via the Monaro Highway (M23).
  • Shuttle service: Some companies offer shuttle services from Canberra Airport to Jindabyne. These services must be booked in advance and may have limited schedules.

 

Cooma Snowy Mountains Airport (OOM):

  • Fly into Cooma Snowy Mountains Airport, which is closer to Jindabyne than Canberra Airport but has limited flight options.
  • From the airport, you’ll need to arrange transportation to Jindabyne, which is about a 1-hour drive away.
  • Note that flights to Cooma may only be available during certain times of the year and may be subject to weather conditions.

Getting to Thredbo and Perisher

In Jindabyne, there are several travel options to get to Thredbo and Perisher:

  1. Shuttle Services:
    • There are shuttle services specifically tailored for transporting visitors between Jindabyne and the ski resorts. These services typically operate during the ski season and provide regular transfers to Thredbo and Perisher from designated pick-up points in Jindabyne. For more information click here
  2. Private Transfers:
    • Private transfer companies offer door-to-door services between Jindabyne and the ski resorts. These can be booked in advance and provide flexibility in terms of pick-up times and locations. For more information click here
  3. Self-Drive:
    • Many visitors opt to drive themselves from Jindabyne to Thredbo and Perisher. It’s about a 30-minute drive to Thredbo and around a 40-minute drive to Perisher. Keep in mind that during peak times, parking may be limited and there could be road conditions to consider. You will also need to carry a National Parks Pass to drive into the National Park.   4. Skitube to Perisher
    • You can drive yourself, get a shuttle bus or private transfer, to Bullocks Flat Termina, where the Skitube departs for Perisher Valley. It’s located about 22 kilometers from Jindabyne and is well-signposted from the Alpine Way. There’s ample parking available at Bullocks Flat Terminal. The Skitube Alpine Railway is a convenient way to travel from Bullocks Flat to Perisher Valley. You can park your car at the Bullocks Flat Terminal and then take the Skitube train directly to Perisher Valley. The Skitube journey takes about 15 minutes. For more information click here
